Horst and Graben Inn

This newly-built sturdy two story inn is of Bavarian design. A large building, the inn has a solid stone foundation and walls of rough-hewn timber. Slate tiles cover the sloping roof, and thick wooden shutters cover each of the inn’s many windows. Nearly a dozen stone chimneys rise above the roof, and several of them are continuously smoking.

The square wooden sign above the door shows a river valley between two mountains. This is the Horst und Graben Gasthaus, a place renowned for its good food and excellent drink. Passing merchants make a point of stopping, as do many other sorts of wayfarers, and the place is always filled with patrons.

There are three levels of this place. All run by Ostler Gundigoot, his goodwife, their two daughters, and a pair of potboy apprentices. This family is recently arrived from Bavaria, along with the recent swell of settlers in the borderlands.

The main room is the tavern, the village's hottest social gathering spot. There are always several customers in this area at most times, including travelers and local farmers. The second floor of the inn houses weary travelers. The upper rooms are very clean, and all except the common dormitory are heated.  Each has a fine bed, many covers, wash stand, chamber pot, towels, pegs for garments, and several chairs and stools.  The larger rooms have arm chairs, tables, footstools, bed warmers, curtained beds, and good rugs on the floor and wall hangings as well.
